The Railway 200 “Inspiration” train, hosted by East Midlands Railway in partnership with the National Railway Museum, arrived at Skegness Railway Station on Friday as part of its national anniversary tour.

The travelling attraction features four themed carriages packed with interactive exhibits, hands-on activities and railway artefacts charting two centuries of railway history.

Among those attending was the Mayor of Skegness, Coun Jimmy Brookes, who visited the exhibition as one of his final civic duties before handing over the chain of office to Coun Dan Kirk at the town council’s annual meeting on Wednesday evening.

Coun Brookes praised the exhibition after taking part in a guided tour of the train.

He said: “I had a fantastic time visiting the Railway 200 Inspiration Train at Skegness Railway Station for a guided tour of the travelling exhibition, created in collaboration with the National Railway Museum.

“It was great to explore the interactive displays, hands-on activities, and learn more about both the history and future of our railways.

“The exhibition really showcases how far railway transportation has come over the last 200 years, while also looking ahead to the industry’s future.”

The Mayor said the four themed carriages – Railway Firsts, Wonderlab on Wheels, Your Railway Future and the Partner Zone – offered something for all ages.

He added: “A big thank you to everyone involved in bringing this brilliant exhibition to Skegness.”

Coun Brookes was joined during the visit by Lincolnshire County Councillor David East.

The exhibition train visited Skegness as the first and only Lincolnshire stop on its nationwide Railway 200 tour.
